Maritide Privacy Policy
This page explains how Maritide handles account information, requested locations, private content, device permissions, billing-related data, and account-linked usage analytics.
Effective date: September 6, 2026
What Maritide collects
- Account information you provide, such as your email address, display name, and profile settings.
- Content you create in the app, including saved places, private spots, trips, log entries, catches, and photos.
- Operational data needed to run the service, including session records, IP addresses and device/browser information used for security, sync metadata, request timing, and error diagnostics.
- A location or coordinate when you ask Maritide to resolve local weather, tides, waves, daylight, or nearby source options.
- Place-search queries and map areas sent to Maritide's catalog service. Some searches use your device's mapping service instead. Service logs may retain request information; temporary use is not a promise that every request leaves no record.
How Maritide uses your information
- To authenticate you, keep your account secure, and restore your information across supported devices.
- To store and sync the places, notes, and media you choose to keep in Maritide.
- To provide place-aware conditions, marine context, and billing-related account access when those features are enabled.
- To understand feature use, manage service costs and quotas, investigate failures, and improve reliability.
Location and conditions providers
- Maritide sends the requested coordinate to official or approved conditions providers only as needed to resolve weather and marine context for that target.
- For U.S. weather, Maritide uses the National Weather Service first and may use Apple Weather as a fallback when that source is enabled. WeatherKit receives the coordinate, language, country code, and timezone – not your Maritide account ID, place name, private alias, or saved-place metadata.
- Maritide stores normalized weather snapshots for bounded refresh and offline use. Weather-provider attempt records use keyed hashes of an account or installation identifier and IP address, not raw coordinates, place names, aliases, or provider payloads. These identifiers support usage limits and abuse prevention; they are not advertising identifiers.
- The location restrictions on weather-provider attempt records do not apply to the saved places and private logs you choose to keep in your account. Maritide does not request background location tracking.
- Weather and marine conditions are informational and may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable. Check official alerts and local authorities before making safety-critical decisions.
Usage, costs, and diagnostics
- Maritide's restricted administrator dashboard shows feature usage, request outcomes, cache use, service timing, storage totals, and estimated costs. When AI-assisted Captain's Briefs are enabled, these records may also include model and token counts.
- Signed-in usage summaries can be linked to your account for support, quota enforcement, cost management, and product analytics. An internal account reference does not make those records anonymous. Signed-out weather usage may instead be associated with a keyed installation identifier.
- The usage dashboard does not need the text of your private journal, your photos, or exact saved-place coordinates to calculate usage and costs. Those account records are stored separately for the features you use.
- Maritide does not use these records for cross-app advertising tracking or sell them to data brokers.
Camera and photo access
- Maritide requests camera or photo-library access only when you choose to add media to your account.
- Photos are used for trip logs, catches, and other user-owned records inside Maritide.
- Maritide does not publish your private media or private spots to other users by default.
Private spots and logs
- Private spots, trip records, catches, and account-owned memories are treated as user-owned content.
- Maritide is designed to keep private content private by default unless you explicitly choose otherwise in a future sharing surface.
Billing and purchases
- When store billing is enabled, Maritide receives purchase verification data needed to validate subscription state.
- Maritide does not receive your full credit-card number from Apple App Store or Google Play billing flows.
- To prevent repeated use of the one-time Captain Preview, Maritide retains a non-reversible keyed digest derived from Apple's app transaction identifier. Maritide does not retain the raw identifier or signed eligibility proof.
- Canceling renewal, downgrading, or removing the app does not delete your saved history or cancel an account-deletion request.
Data retention and deletion
- Maritide retains account data while your account remains active so your saved places, logs, and media remain available to you.
- Account-level dashboard usage events have a 53-day retention schedule; daily account usage summaries have a retention window of up to 13 months. Deleting your account also removes its linked dashboard records. These schedules are separate from the underlying billing and feature-usage records needed to operate your account.
- Weather-provider attempts have a 30-day retention schedule. Provider-wide daily totals cover 45 completed UTC days plus the current day; monthly totals cover 13 completed UTC months plus the current month. These totals do not contain account or installation identifiers.
- Scheduled maintenance removes expired usage records. Hosting logs and recovery backups have separate retention schedules, so deleting an account does not mean every operational record or backup copy disappears immediately.
- If account deletion is requested and confirmed, normal account use is disabled and the account and associated data are scheduled for permanent deletion according to Maritide's deletion flow.
- When account deletion completes, Maritide removes the account link from the one-time-preview record but retains only the non-reversible promotion digest for abuse prevention.
- Download an account export before requesting deletion if you want to retain a copy of your structured data and eligible original media.
